About us

Established in 1958, our friendly society was originally founded for professional artists.

Today we welcome all artists who live in the county of Meirionnydd, from the budding beginner to the more established practitioner. The only qualification required for membership is a big smile!

Among our early tutors and members were Sir Kyffin Williams, Karel Lek, Jonas Jones, Myfanwy Kitchin and Keeley Brazier. The tradition of quality has been maintained in more recent times with Howard Coles, Wendy Murphy and Rob Piercy as either former members or current tutors.

Regular workshops are held with professional tutors in an encouraging atmosphere. The main focus is on painting and drawing techniques, but we do have a go at other subjects from time to time. Untutored outdoor working sessions are also held in the summer months where you will find a happy gathering dotted about the hills, along the shore or scattered on the estuary path.

Critique sessions are held to give encouragement and support. Members bring ongoing work along, especially pieces that are proving problematic and we all chip in with our opinions. You may not have resolved your problems, but you will have had fun and gained a few hints and tips. It’s always interesting to reveal how others see your work.

We hold annual exhibition, which is open to all members. It provides a popular, well attended window for the Society, and an opportunity to sell and to socialise.

New members are always warmly welcomed. If you wish to join us, please contact us through the Contact Us page.
